Trail cameras are one tool that hunters use to keep tabs on big game animals. While not a substitute for in-person scouting, trail cameras offer 24-7 surveillance at your hunting spots and are less intrusive than returning to an area over and over again, which can lay down human scent in the area and disrupt animal behavior. Trail cameras have some drawbacks, namely their high cost and the potential for theft. That said, they can be an effective tool where legal. In Oregon, trail cameras are legal, but some states prohibit their use during hunting season — or for any hunting-related activity.
