Lesson Overview

No matter where you hunt, it’s important to know where you are in the field and how to signal for help in an emergency.  Smartphones work for short hunts in cell range. For longer, extended hunts in the backcountry where you might not find people or cell service for days, you need a more rigorous communication plan. This lesson covers devices and tactics for hunting smarter and safer.

You will learn:

• What kinds of maps are useful for hunting (both print and electronic)
• What GPS devices are common for hunting and strategies for using them
• Emergency communication devices for the backcountry
