Gear Lists

Overview

Some hunters are minimalists, others are gear junkies. If you are the kind of person who loves planning, pack lists, and spreadsheets, then we’ve collected some well-crafted lists from seasoned hunting vets. Are you the kind of person who likes to throw a few things in a pack and go? On a budget? We’ve got some lists for you, too.

Gear Junkie Websites

Online, you’ll see countless “Best Bows of 2020” articles written by people who have never touched a bow in their life but get paid by the word to write reviews and gear lists. Generally, avoid these lists. Instead, check out the following gear junkies and their thoughtful, tested ideas on what gear is worth having in the hunting woods.

  1. GoHunt.com   Brady Miller, Trail Kreitzer, and the rest of the GoHunt team dedicate countless hours and dollars testing and reviewing hunting gear. Their website chronicles years of evolving gear lists and reviews.
  2. Dialedinhunter.com   Josh Kirschner, aka Dialed In Hunter, writes fantastic reviews and lists of gear that he has personal experience with in the field.
  3. Exo Mountain Gear: In My Pack Exo is one of the top pack makers in the country. Their website features an “In My Pack” page showing what experienced hunters are toting with them in the field.
  4. Hunting Pack Essentials — Meateater  Here’s another one-pack look at suitable items to take afield. Steven Rinella has written dozens of articles and a few excellent books that also cover hunting gear thoroughly.
  5. Essential Hunting Gear for Beginners: ONX A quick, no-nonsense gear guide from ONX maps.
