The OHA Redmond Chapter has begun a 10-year partnership with Central Oregon
Quail Unlimited and BLM to improve wildlife habitat on about 300 acres of
former agricultural lands along Bridge Creek near Mitchell, and on the John
Day River near Clarno in north-central Oregon. We plan to plant and
cultivate a variety of crops and native plants to provide food and cover for
wildlife. An important aspect of the project is to control noxious,
non-native plants. The Redmond OHA chapter is contributing $10,000 to the
project.
The Redmond Chapter
donated the initial $6,000 to purchase two irrigation wheel lines to grow
hay for elk on the Phillip W. Schneider Wildlife Area near Dayville, with
the remaining $6,000 coming from eight other OHA chapters, the Santiam
Chapter Safari Club International and Central Oregon Quail Unlimited.
More than 70
members of the Redmond Chapter on April 12 planted more than 5,000 native
shrubs at Murderers Creek.
